Pharmacological Effects

Pharmacodynamics: Colistin is a peptide antibacterial drug, is an alkaline cationic surfactant, through the interaction with the phospholipids in the bacterial cell membrane, penetrate into the bacterial cell membrane, destroy its structure, and then cause changes in membrane permeability, leading to the death of bacteria, resulting in bactericidal effect.
It has strong antibacterial effect on Gram-negative bacteria such as aerobic bacteria, Escherichia coli, Haemophilus, Klebsiella, Pasteurella, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Salmonella, Shigella and other Gram-negative bacteria. Gram-positive bacteria are usually not sensitive. There is complete cross-resistance with polymyxin B, but no cross-resistance with other antibacterial drugs.
Pharmacokinetics: The drug is virtually unabsorbed when administered orally, but is rapidly absorbed by non-gastrointestinal administration. Drugs entering the body can be rapidly distributed into the heart, lungs, liver, kidneys and skeletal muscle, but not easily enter the cerebrospinal cord, thoracic cavity, joint cavity and infected lesions. It is excreted mainly via the kidneys.

Effects and Uses

It is a polypeptide antibiotic, with strong antibacterial activity against Gram-negative bacteria, such as Escherichia coli, Salmonella, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Proteus vulgaris, and Klebsiella pneumoniae. It is widely used in the treatment of intestinal infections caused by Gram-negative bacteria.

Usage and Dosage

Mix the drug with water or feed and give it to pigs and chickens orally. The recommended dosage is based on the weight of the animals and should be strictly followed.
